Understanding Self-Harm in Autistic Young People 

Researchers at the University of Birmingham are investigating self-harm in autistic young people between the ages of 14-25 years.


This mixed methods project comprises of (1) A systematic review and meta-analysis of the current autism and self-harm data, (2) A cross-sectional online survey investigating the prevalence, profile and risk-marks of self-harm in autistic young people, (3) A qualitative exploration of the perspectives and experiences of autistic young people who engage in self-harm and (4) An experimental study investigating the contribution of emotion regulation difficulties in the development of self-harm in autistic young people.
